As a part of the government’s
initiative to ensure quality education for students in Government
schools and to increase awareness for quality in education, the Assam
government is going to adopt ‘Gunotsav’, a quality improvement
programme.
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa
Sharma has stated that 48000 schools of Assam would be graded as per
the Gunotsav programme that is prevalent in Gujarat education system.
Under this system, schools will be graded as A, B or C based on their
infrastructure, quality of education and performance.
Talking on the sidelines of Swacch
School Award Ceremony held in Ravindra Bhwan of Guwahati, Himanta Biswa
Sharma said, ‘We will organise Gunotsav Programme twice a year in an
interval of six months. These programmes will be for a single day. On
this day, gazetted officers of the government will visit each of these
schools and grade it as A B or C after evaluating the school on the
basis of its performance, infrastructure, environment etc. In this
process of visiting schools, I myself, our Chief Minister, the Chief
Secretary will also take part’.
He also stated that after the first
Gunotsav programme, the schools would be provided government assistance
to improve their grades. Again after six months, i.e. in the second
Gunotsav programme, the officers will evaluate whether the low graded
schools have been upgraded or not.
‘I have seen that many of the schools
in Assam do not have adequate teachers and students. We do not know
whether mid day meals are provided inadequately or excessively as we do
not have clear idea about the number of students. We have to sort these
issues out. We need to look after the quality of education, cleanliness
and other important factors’.
A team of Assam education department
will visit Gujarat within seven days to have a clear idea of the
Gunotsav programme which has been in place since 2009.
